What inspired the change in your career path from business to health and wellness?

Over my 8 year career in digital advertising and sales, I kept feeling a pull to do something more active that involved helping people. The corporate world just never felt quite right to me. I considered other fields of study that pertained to health and fitness, but when I thought of massage therapy, it was like suddenly I had a very clear vision of my future. It was in the fall of 2020. I had been seeing a massage therapist regularly for a few months and always felt better physically and mentally after our sessions. I wanted to provide this same experience for others and be a good part of their day.

Who is your typical client?

It has been really neat meeting so many different people and working with them based on what they want out of their session. Some people know exactly what they are looking for and some want to be guided. I enjoy changing up the routine. Some clients want super focused deep work, others prefer a relaxing, lighter touch. Some just want to listen to the music and zone out and some want to talk throughout. It’s a mixed bag and I love that!

What is your goal when working with clients?

My main goal for each session can be summed up with something I say before I enter the room. I started this routine during school on clinic days to help center my focus and bring the right energy into my interaction with the client. “Help me to make this person’s day better in some way. Help my thoughts and focus to stay right here in this room and in the present. Allow my hands to feel what their body needs at this moment. May I find what areas need work and what type of work will be most beneficial to them. Let me create a compassionate space for them to heal in some capacity - physically, mentally or emotionally.” Simply stated, the goal is to have you feeling better than before you walked into the room.

What is a motto you follow personally and in your practice?

Everything in moderation. It’s always hard for me to narrow any question down to ONE answer...but if I absolutely have to, I think this one actually holds its own as an absolute. My mom has always been the queen of moderation and has taught me how important it is in life - in enjoying it for the long run. Lately I’ve realized just how ingrained the moderation motto has become in me as I have journeyed further into adulthood. I try not to take any one thing to the extreme and let it rule my life, taking the fun out of the everyday routine. When it comes to my massage practice this motto applies big time as well. I believe deep tissue has its benefits. So does stretch therapy. So does trigger point work. But all in moderation! Believe it or not, yes, stretching can do more harm than good if taken too far. I know about it firsthand, haha.
